It was a wonderful week filled with lots of great learning!
Learning Intentions:
- Children explore size (length, weight, capacity, area) through direct comparison (This week we focused on the length of a variety of classroom objects)
I Can:
- compare the length the length of two objects directly
- describe the size of an object in relation to another object using comparative language (longer, shorter, same)
Students had lots of fun finding objects from around the classroom to make direct size comparisons. We practiced using comparative words such as - longer, shorter and same, to directly compare two objects.
- "My lunch kit is shorter than the block."
- "This dish is the same length as my block."
- "My block is definitely longer than my water bottle."
- "This wooden dish is the same (length) as my leg!"
- "The lizard is shorter than the dish...but what if we put 2 lizards together...maybe they would be as long as it?"
Using non-standard measurement, students began using one of their chosen objects to measure the other objects...It turned into a measuring party!
- "I wonder how many googly eyes long this block is?"
- "It took 3 pencil crayons to be the same length as the bowl!"
- "I counted and this block is 27 cubes long!"
